Which number, from which country
This practice is based in France, close to the Luxembourg, Belgian and German borders. The numbers below are therefore listed with the country they work from: dialling a French short number from abroad simply does not connect.
| Number | What it is | Reachable from |
|---|---|---|
| 112 | European emergency number: medical, police, fire | All 27 European Union countries, including France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany |
| 3114 | National suicide prevention line; a nurse or psychologist answers | France only (mainland and overseas) |
| 15 | SAMU, medical or psychiatric emergency | France only |
| 114 | Emergency by text message, for deaf, hard-of-hearing and speech-impaired people | France only |
| 17 | Police | France only |
| 18 | Fire and rescue | France only |
If you are worried about someone else
You are entitled to call on behalf of another person. The 3114 line in France is explicitly open to relatives and friends, and so is 112.
- Ask directly. Asking someone whether they are thinking of ending their life does not put the idea into their head.
- Listen without correcting. You do not have to find a solution.
- Do not carry it alone. Call a helpline yourself, even if the person concerned does not.
- If the danger is immediate, call 112. Do not wait until you are certain.
Why this website cannot help you in an emergency
It has to be said plainly. Appointment requests arrive by e-mail. They are read by one person. The reply can take up to one week.
That is not suitable for an emergency. This site is not a crisis service.
If you need help today, use the numbers on this page. They exist for exactly that, at any hour.
